Frequently Asked Questions

  • It’s relational and personal. I’m not just showing up to check boxes, I’m invested.  I want to get to know you, your family, even your pets, and what matters most to you. By the time you’re in labor, you’re not with a stranger… you’re with someone who knows you and truly cares about you.

Your care happens in the comfort of your home, where you can relax and be yourself. Our visits are unhurried and conversational, giving you space to ask questions, process, and feel fully seen and heard. I take on a limited number of families so I can be present, responsive, and available when you need me.

When it comes time for birth, my role is to protect your space, support your body, and quietly ensure that everything is unfolding safely. I bring a calm, grounded presence while continuously assessing you and your baby. My goal is for you to feel safe, respected, and deeply cared for…not just medically, but as an individual person.

And that care doesn’t end at birth. The postpartum period is something I value deeply, with continued in-home visits and ongoing support as you settle into life with your baby.

  • For healthy, low-risk pregnancies, home birth with a trained midwife is considered a safe option. I follow evidence-based guidelines, carry appropriate equipment and medications, and continuously assess you and your baby throughout your care. Part of my role is also recognizing when something is outside of normal and guiding a safe transition when needed.

For healthy, low-risk pregnancies, planned home birth with a trained midwife is a safe option. Large studies, including U.S. data from the Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA) and international research published in The BMJ, show similar rates of serious outcomes for mothers and babies compared to hospital birth, with significantly lower rates of interventions like cesarean. Careful screening, ongoing assessment, and a clear plan for transfer, if needed, help keep safety at the center of care.

  • I specialize in home birth, and that’s where I practice as your midwife and sole provider. If a higher level of care becomes necessary, I help facilitate that transition to the hospital and will then continue with you in a supportive role, as I do not have hospital privileges. I don’t just send you in, I stay connected and walk with you through that shift.

For those that are interested in a planned hospital birth, you will receive in-home prenatal and postpartum support from me, and we will spend our prenatal visits helping to prepare you for an empowering hospital birth. When you go into labor, you will go to the hospital of your choice and see an on-call provider: a doctor or certified nurse midwife. When you let me know that you are heading in, I will transfer your records to your hospital and be available to answer questions and give support via phone. In-home postpartum care will start when you are discharged from the hospital. For more information about planned hospital birth, click here.

  • All prenatal appointments are done in your home. I have weekend and evening appointments available, and your family (including baby’s siblings) are always welcome to participate. At each visit, I’m assessing your health and your baby’s well-being through ongoing risk assessment, vitals, weight, fundal height, and fetal heart tones. We also draw labs and review them when the results come in, complete any necessary testing, and walk through education and informed consent as your pregnancy progresses. If you’d ever like a peek at your baby, I do carry a handheld ultrasound and am happy to use it. Although non-diagnostic, it can be a simple and meaningful way to connect with your baby.  My goal is that you feel both well cared for medically, and fully supported as a person. You’re not rushed, and your questions are never brushed aside.

  • All routine labs are drawn in your home. I bring what’s needed, draw your labs during your visit, and personally deliver them to the lab. It’s simple, comfortable, and one less thing for you to coordinate.  No one likes to sit at the lab, especially with other kiddos in tow.

When the results for your labs come in, I will call you and review them with you: no waiting until your next appointment or getting results in a portal and trying to interpret them yourself.

  • When you choose me as your midwife, you’re choosing a known provider.  Someone who walks with you throughout your pregnancy and plans to be there when your baby is born. I intentionally limit the number of families I serve, so I can show up fully for each one.

Birth is an intimate space, and I work hard to keep it that way. Typically, it will be just me and either a second midwife assisting, or a trained birth assistant. My practice is not a teaching environment, so there are no students present, and you will always know exactly who is coming into your space.

In the rare event that something unexpected keeps me from being there, I have trusted backup midwives who care for families in alignment with how I practice. But my intention is always to be your midwife.

  • I truly value and appreciate the presence of doulas in the birth space. Their support is steady, intuitive, and deeply centered on you.  This pairs so well with the care I provide. We work alongside each other in a way that feels natural and collaborative, creating a calm, supported environment where you can feel safe, seen, and cared for throughout your experience. Doulas provide hands-on support throughout your labor, often before it is time for me to arrive. While I am focused on the safety and health of you and your baby, your doula can help provide physical and emotional support. They really do complete the care team and are such an asset and I’d love to recommend some that I trust and adore.

  • Most births unfold normally, but I am always prepared for the unexpected. I maintain current certification in neonatal resuscitation (NRP) and come equipped with emergency medications, including those used to manage postpartum bleeding, as well as oxygen and resuscitation equipment for both mother and baby. I am trained and experienced in managing obstetrical emergencies, and this is one of the reasons there are always two trained professionals present at your birth.

If a higher level of care is ever needed, I coordinate a smooth transfer to the hospital and remain with you in a supportive role. You are never left to navigate that alone.

  • Postpartum care is something I hold with a lot of importance. I continue caring for you and your baby with multiple in-home visits, so that you don’t have to leave your space during those early weeks. I’m assessing your recovery, supporting your healing, and monitoring your baby’s feeding, weight gain, and overall transition. I also provide breastfeeding support and connect you with trusted resources if more specialized care is needed.

I complete newborn screenings in your home, including the metabolic blood spot test (if you choose) and the congenital heart defect screening. I also file your Florida birth certificate, which allows for your baby’s Social Security card to be issued, if desired. My goal is to care for both of you while also taking as much off your plate as possible during that time.

  • I believe in being upfront and transparent about cost, so that families can plan with clarity and confidence. While I am not in-network with insurance, I do provide the documentation needed for you to pursue reimbursement. I work with a professional biller who will prepare a HCFA form (also known as a superbill) on your behalf. Many families are able to receive partial reimbursement from their insurance company, especially when they are persistent and follow up on their claims.

I’m also happy to work with families who use health share programs. I will provide any documentation you may need, and help support that process so you can utilize your coverage as best as possible.

I also understand that choosing midwifery care is a significant investment, and I take that seriously. I handle all financial matters with honesty, clarity, and integrity, and I am always committed to being straightforward and respectful when it comes to cost. I’m happy to talk through payment options with you so it feels manageable and as stress-free as possible.

  • I offer flexible payment options to make care more manageable. A deposit is due at your first prenatal visit to reserve your spot in my practice, and the remaining balance is divided into equal monthly payments, with the full balance due by 36 weeks of pregnancy. Because I limit the number of families I serve, your deposit secures your place in my care for your estimated due date. I’m always happy to talk through options so it feels manageable and not overwhelming.

  • While I am not in-network with insurance for midwifery care, most lab services can be billed directly through LabCorp or Quest Diagnostics, if you do have insurance. Coverage varies by plan, so I always recommend checking your specific benefits.

For families paying out of pocket or those who find it more cost-effective than using insurance,I offer reduced client pricing (my rates) for lab work. These rates are often significantly lower than standard pricing and can save families hundreds of dollars.

I’m always happy to help you review your options ahead of time so you can choose what works best for your family.

  • No. I bring all of the medical supplies needed for your care and your birth. You’ll simply gather a short list of basic household items and a few comfort supplies, and tuck it away. We will go over all of these together at your 36 week visit to ensure that all is prepped for birth and baby. It's minimal and not an added financial burden.

Should you desire a water birth, everything you need is provided by me. This includes a birth tub, liner, and setup equipment and these are all included in your care. I also bring what’s needed to empty the tub after your birth.

  • I accept a variety of payment methods, including credit and debit cards, HSA/FSA cards, Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, cash, and check. For added convenience, I also offer automatic monthly payments through ACH (bank draft), which many families find to be the easiest way to stay on track.

  • If I’ve had the privilege of being part of your birth before, whether as your midwife, doula, student, or birth assistant, I offer a repeat client discount as a way to honor that continued relationship.

  • Consultations are complimentary and take place in your home, allowing us to meet in the same comfortable, familiar environment where your care will unfold. It gives us the opportunity to sit down together in a relaxed, unhurried way.  There’s plenty of time for questions, honest conversation, and openness to talk through anything that matters to you. Partners are encouraged to be present, and children are always welcome to join in.

You’ll be able to get a true feel for what care with me is like…not just what I offer, but how I relate. My goal is for you and your family to feel informed, supported, and comfortable, with the clarity you need to decide whether this is the right fit for all of you.  There are many wonderful midwives in our area, and you deserve to feel complete peace in who you choose.
